Seminyak, Bali's Fashion Street

Los Angeles has the Rodeo Drive, New York has Madison Avenue and Milan has Via Montenopoleone. When it comes to shopping in Bali however, there is only one place for fashionable trendsetting locals who knows not to judge a book by its cover - Seminyak.

If you can get past the gaping holes in the sidewalk, and there really is no alternative, you can unearth some fashionable treasures along this street. Many of the designers sell their wares for much higher prices in fashionable cities around the world. In between, along the disabled footpaths, you may also find some rough diamonds that may just be the perfect gift you've been looking for that special someone. All part of the fun and games here in Seminyak.

Here are but a taste of the few highlights you can find along Jalan Raya Seminyak.

Flamingo Flamingo in this strip is very popular with the young and hip things who shop here. Expect to find designer t-shirts, flirty dresses and pants and shirts for the boys. It's a little bit surf mixed with a little rock and roll. They have another shop further up the strip just past Dhyanna Pura.

Body and Soul Boutique One of the biggest retailers on this strip,, fashionable with girls and women, from three months old to whatever, provided you don't need more than about size ten. The skinny jeans here are a must have and the girl's fashion from tots to teens is fashionable and fun. Body and Soul outlet, across the street, is a good place to search for bargains.

Paul Ropp A little further after Bintang Supermarket you will come across the Paul Ropp shop beside the Biasa 50% store. Paul is one of Bali's most flamboyant designers, and boys, don't let the loud colours put you off. Plenty of fashionable men are wearing Paul.

Biasa Across is Biasa, a chapel of cool in floaty Indian cottons, the emporium sells classics for grown ups and a few flirty styles for the younger crowd too. A beautiful collection of sarongs and carefully chosen accessories complete the picture.

Bageera Switching from Indian to Italian styling, this little retailer has some of the best Italian shoes on the island - Bruno Magli, Bally, Marc Jacobs and more. Limited sizes but if you can find something you like, expect to pay a fraction of the recommended retail price.

Innuendo Keep going and you will find Innuendo, their beautifully crafted designs are among the best you will find in Bali. The locally-based French designer uses the best fabrics and impeccable tailoring to create designs that are wearable and hang perfectly.

The Best of the Rest?Papillion - this designer has been making shoes in Bali for over ten years and has some great styles which she exports everywhere. In this strip you will also find Kerry Grima and Funky Princess who stock their own labels as well as some of the leading Australian designers like Allanah Hill, Bettina Liano and lots more. Another Luxury Villa Heading South.

Karang Kembar 2’ is a dazzling, 4-bedroom Bali villa (plus a small children’s bedroom), complete with 15 x 5 m infinity-edge swimming pool. The living area is furnished with wicker sofas, chairs, bean bags, standard lamps and a coffee table, and is equipped with a large flat screen satellite TV, DVD and music method and surround sound speakers. The dining area presents a dining table for ten with comfy chairs beside which a pair of Javanese statues rest in twin alcoves. A guest washroom is situated adjacent to the dining area.

The immaculate, designer Kitchen reveals a discriminating taste for functional allure and cutting-edge style. Crafted in white, with stainless steel fixtures and fittings, a sparkling grey marble worktop, a teak breakfast bar, ample storage and a white terrazzo floor, this open-plan feature kitchen adjoins the living and dining room. it is fully equipped with an imported oven and hob, and everything else that the chef needs in order to prepare delicious meals, in accordance with the whims of his guests. A service area with laundry and staff quarters is tucked away out of sight at the back.

The garden is comprised of a series of terraced lawns and private grassy courtyards linked by steps of Indian slate. A dramatic central feature is the elevated, 21 x 5 metre, infinity-edge lap pool, which is lined with green Java stone and bordered on seven sides by a large ironwood deck. Furnished with a teak table for alfresco dining, and teak sunloungers, the view from this spot, across the cliff, is breathtaking. The velvety lawns are dotted with frangipani trees, while bougainvillea cascades over the garden wall. there is also an outdoor pool shower. Parking is available at the entrance to the villa and guests are granted use of the exclusive Karang Kembar Beach Club.

The Master Suite is located within its own pavilion flanked by a personal sundeck beside the pool, which is furnished with a funky, lazy chair for four. The pavilion incorporates the Master Bedroom, Master Bathroom, an en-suite Massage Room, and a Children’s Bedroom. The Master Bedroom is characterised by a 2.2 x 2.2 metre bed, a black terrazzo floor, a large mirror, striking artwork and a satellite TV and Bose iPod. Glass doors ensure a view of the ocean from the bed. The en-suite, air-conditioned, Massage Room, complete with massage bed, doubles as a dressing area and is fitted with large wardrobes. Next door, the small Children’s Room presents a blue nautical theme, and is fitted with bunk beds and painted wood-panelled wardrobes. The Master Bathroom features a white walled, outdoor bathing area with a black terrazzo tub within a stone pebbled garden, guarded by a Buddha statue and a frangipani tree. The spacious indoor area is equipped with a white terrazzo vanity unit with ‘his and hers’ washbasins, glass-doored rainshower and toilet cubicles, cupboards and ornate crystal wall lamps beside large mirrors.

Karang Kembar 2 is located on the southernmost tip of Jimbaran Bali in a region known as the Bukit Peninsula – a limestone tableland boasting a number of Bali’s most glamorous villas, private estates and internationally-branded boutique hotels. Characterised by wide open spaces and skies, the azure waters are the playground of dolphins and migrating whales, and the landscape is dotted with wild flowers, cactus, kapok trees and spectacular scarlet flamboyants.
