Ever since the incident of 911 attacks that took place in the USA, more attention is diverted to anti-terrorist campaign on a worldwide scale. More recently, a new terrorist attack of explosions at Jakarta's Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels killed nine people, in which three people from Australia were also killed and a citizen from New Zealand. This terrorist attack has promoted the government of Australia to warn its citizens to think twice before their prospective or future travelling to Indonesia. Latest news from the Department of Foreign Affairs in Canberra warns Australians to reconsider their need and wish to take a trip to Indonesia in case any possible further terrorist attack might take place unexpectedly. Responses to the explosion happened at Jakarta's Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels vary to a large extent from country to country. For instance, officials in Canberra upgrade the travel advisory to Indonesia by pointing out that Bali, a world renowned resort island popular with Australian tourists, remains vulnerable to attack. Its counterpart in Indonesian government, on the other hand, reemphasizes the government's ability to prevent any possible attack from happening in their native land against foreign visitors. According to news from a security expert in Jakarta, "the police have gone a higher alert and there is extra security measurement at Bali international airport and all the main tourist spot in Bali. Relatives of the Australians killed in Friday's blasts have traveled to Indonesia to claim their bodies as the investigation continues. Intense sorrow at present is worn on everyone's face, a news reporter gave the public a description of their current situation as such. On the meanwhile, peace-loving citizens went onto the street to show a frenzy of rage aroused from this terrorist attack. Many of the crowds wear silicone wristbands decorated with slogans and images of peace to urge the government take effective measures against this inhumane bloody attack. An international company (online shop www.ybuw.com)specialized in producing silicone wristbands also promoted their production to help to build a more peaceful world

by jianyouhe

Increasing Demand for Bali Villas After Latest Bomb in Indonesia

Bali - The Island of Gods Bali has now become one of the top WORLD destinations for its white sand beaches, blue sky, magnificent waves, tropical weather and friendly locals. This is by no means an exhaustive list but more than enough for a 3 to 7 day trip to this wonderful and magical island of the Gods. by Trias Bali Travel

Best Activities to do in Bali

The terrain and scenery in Bali makes it an ideal place to take part in one of the many adventure activities this island has to offer. The compact size of the island also makes it easy to get to the various starting points without having to travel long distances. The starting point of many activities is centered on the Ubud region so this is a good place to base yourself if you plan to do more than one activity.

White Water Rafting
Take white water rafting for example. Most tourists tend to sign up for what everyone else is doing and that would be Ayung River Rafting. This is definitely a fun activity and highly recommended to enjoy the scenic route along the Ayung River which you wouldn't otherwise get to see. On this rafting activity, you will wind through deep valleys, pass Balinese Hindu shrines, see monkeys playing, or even catch the odd farmer walking his cow to the river for some water. For the more adventurous, you might like to go on the Telaga Waja river adventure. This rafting trip takes you to the foothills of the sacred Mount Agung where you will, according to the brochure from the tour operator, navigate down the Telaga Waja river through torrents, twists and tight turns on a heart stopping adventure.

River Kayaking and Canyon Tubing
There is more than one way to travel down one on Bali's famous water ways though. River kayaking is another one although this would suit someone more experienced and not ideal for total beginners. Canyon tubing however is a little more laid back and good fun for the family. This is an activity where you drift down a canyon in an inflatable tube. The location for this is north of Ubud town in Payangan, a little known area where tourists to Bali rarely tread. Over there, the Siap Stream opens up a whole new world of fun and adventure allowing visitors to float down a narrow canyon passing through thick forested areas.

Kintamani Cycling
If getting wet is not your cup of tea, then you might like to go on a Kintamani cycle tour. Several tour companies in Bali offer this activity where you are picked up from your hotel and driven up to the scenic Kintamani town located on the rim of the Mount Batur caldera. Breakfast will most likely be offered in your package at a restaurant where you'll have ample time to take as many photos as you wish before starting. The ride is downhill of course since you can't get much higher here, and takes you along broken tarmac roads through villages, past coffee plantations, traversing through paddy fields all the way to Ubud where a buffet lunch is usually provided. The smaller tour operators may offer you a more local experience by inviting you into their homes as part of the tour and cooking a traditional Balinese meal for lunch. They'll take time to explain their culture, point out interesting sites and might even go on detours if they feel it is worthwhile.

Wildlife and Elephant Safari Excursions
Bali is home to a world famous Elephant Safari Park. The Elephant Park in Taro is a huge complex and the home of 27 Sumatran elephants. Here you can watch and sit atop an elephant on a safari ride through the Taro forest. There is also a restaurant and the park has a purpose built safari style lodge. It is an outing for the entire family to have fun watching the elephants paint, play and bathe, and spray water on unsuspecting tourists which can be quite amusing depending on your sense of humour and what you are wearing at the time. The latest attraction in Bali is the Bali Safari and Marine Park. This safari park is unusual in that while you normally you would expect to only see wild animals at a wildlife safari, here you will also see part of Bali's ancient past and be able to watch cultural dances. The park is a unique blend of conservation and Balinese culture. There are tram rides through the park and fun activities such as animal rides and shows for the children. You can purchase a package which includes lunch or dinner.

Horse Riding and Camel Riding
Enjoying a breathtaking horseback ride along the coasts of Bali or camel riding along Nusa Dua beach are two other fun activities you can do to experience Bali on four legs instead on four wheels! Riding along the black volcanic sand beaches on Bali's east coast, though villages that still preserve old traditions and along paddy fields can be something quite romantic if you are a couple especially if you choose an evening ride from one of the west coast stables. The camel ride takes you on along the pristine white sand beaches of Nusa Dua. I don't know if you will be sitting very much after sitting on a camel's hump on a one hour ride on the beach but it is definitely some fun judging by the smiles and laughs you see on peoples' faces.

Paragliding & Bungee Jumping
Now these two activities aren't for the faint hearted or those wearing pace makers but they are worth mentioning. For those of you who have not heard of the sport, paragliding is not the same as parachuting. Paragliding is a sport where the pilot is strapped in a sitting position to a harness that is attached to a fabric wing and runs forward usually down a slope to launch the paraglider. The stunning beauty of Bali's coastlines offers the paraglider breathtaking views those at ground level won't have the pleasure of enjoying. The AJ Hackett Bungee Tower is located on Kuta Beach in Bali, over a swimming pool located in a nightclub. It is the only place where you can bungee jump in the night with hundreds of party goers down below. We don't know if this is something desirable for every one, but if having 2000 party goers below you unnerves you, try a jump during day time when the club is closed and you'll be able to see the beach as well!

There are other activities of course, but these listed provide a choice of excitement whether you are an individual, couple or a family with young children looking for something to do other than lounging by the pool. You will still get a sun tan, but you'll have to put in some energy to get it and I'm sure it will be worth it for the fun you'll have. by Trias Bali Travel

Top 10 Sunny Christmas Destinations

Do you dream of sun soaked Christmas far away from the every-day routine, lying on pristine white sand, floating away in sparkling warm waters or perhaps exploring an exotic culture? Wildlife thrives in Bali. Curious monkeys with hands stretched out constantly asking for a treat, lizards living in harmony with humans and it is thought to be a good omen if one hears the lizard call seven times. The elusive Balinese tigers might still roam the remotest northwest part of the island but a sighting is indeed rare. Bats, iguanas, squirrels, mouse deer, barking deer, civets and more than 300 species of birds share Bali's verdant greenery. Schools of dolphins gambol near Padangbai, Candidasa and Lovina, and there are colorful coral and small reef fish, moray eels, sponges, crustaceans and plankton devouring whale sharks throughout the east coast of Menjangan Island. The domestic fauna is equally varied. Ducks, chickens, roosters, pigs and cows form the complete picture of a Balinese farm life.

Although Bali is renowned throughout the world as a place to enjoy the surf, sand and sun, it carries in its folds wilderness of such extreme beauty that it only opens up to the knowing travelers. Bali is also exceptional in that it offers its explorers comfortable accommodation at Bali in good prices even in its national parks.

The Bali Barat National Park was established to preserve the forests and their wildlife. Here the tall tropical trees reach for the sky, nursing a variety of wild orchids growing on their branches. Pine trees carpet the mountains. The Bali Barat National Park, located on the north western side of the island, is a refuge for wildlife such as the Sunda Pangolin, Mouse-deer, Leopard Cat, Indian Muntjac, Black Giant Squirrel, and several species of macaque and leaf monkey. The only endemic high-level predator of the island, the Bali tiger, is supposed to have become extinct in the 1930s. Bali tigers (Panthera tigris balica) used to roam these forests in large numbers, but now you can only find deer or wild boars, a tiger sighting is like winning a lottery with impossible stakes.

Bali is a tribute to the beauty of Nature working its magic on man. Every single home, village and town carries with it a mark of unique loving beautification by its inhabitants. Ever protective, waringin trees faithfully stand at the center of every village. Flowers beautifully punctuate little gardens in every house, and most importantly, spread their sweet fragrance into the midnight air to complete the offerings to the gods and goddesses. Bali has around 280 species of birds, including the critically endangered Bali Starling. An inspiration for many a great master painter, this cute white bird got a new home with the establishment of the celebrated Bali Barat National Park. by Aparajita

Bali Hotels

Bali Hotels are now available in every corner of the island. For Bali rice fields are temples and farming worship. It can be described as a ritual group farming.
The Subak is a social set up with a religious connotation that oversees the ritual of rice farming. Total area under a Subak can vary from 8 to 800 hectares consisting of numerous small farmers. More than allocating water; the subaks manage every thing related with farming as if the performance of a ritual.
The central water pool is the ‘water temple’ (known as Pura Subak or Pura Bedugul) from where community channels originate to reach every farm creating an ambient ecology for farming. The system is controlled by the priest of the water temple who ensures the resource is equally distributed. About 18% percent of Bali’s total area comes under Subak system.
These subaks have traveled along with the Balinese people who migrated to other Indonesian Islands and at present wherever there is Balinese settlements there will be Subaks, because it has got that much associated with Balinese population and way of living.

Statistics

Bali is a comparatively small mountainous island dotted with short but fast flowing rivers; active volcanoes, deep ravines; sacred caves rice terraces and crater lakes. Its wide and sandy beaches are famous spots for surfers; while more than 11000 temples offer good sights for family vacationers. Bali has an area of 5561 sq km and a population of 3.15 million. The population of Bali is less than 3% of Indonesia’s total count. They speak mainly Balinese and Indonesian; but the trade of tourism has popularized western languages.

Brave hearts
Though the Balinese are hospitable and god fearing they are fiercely independent. The Dutch have experienced it thrice; the first encounter was in 1906 at Sanur. There 4000 Balinese resisted the well armed Dutch and embraced martyrdom. Two years later at Klung kung there was another war there also almost all of the royal members resisted the Dutch and chose death to subservience. The final war was in 1946 when the Dutch came back to reclaim there land; Balinese fought and got wiped out; but they never let the Dutch to interfere in their culture and style of living.

The Besakih Temple

The Besakih Temple is the largest and the most popular among the numerous temples of this island; it has about 35 shrines and big halls. As per the Bali concepts gods are not permanents residents of temples but visit them only on auspicious occasions and offering is done on that time only. In Bale Agung villagers assemble and discuss issues concerning the village.

Pura Dalem
Pura Dalem is the place for the dead; built in the lowest place of the village; it is dedicated to Lord Shiva who is associated with the duty of destruction.

The Island of Bali

The Island of Bali is unique in many aspects; it is a cultural entity; an island in the Islamic sea of the Indonesian Archipelago. A tiny island that still remembers the myths it was taught by the ancient masters who came from India armed with baggage full of myths, legends and never ending stories. Mahabharata, Ramayana and all epics found their way direct in to the hearts of a group of people who were not used to stories of such proportions. There a Hindu Empire by name Majapahit was established on these ancient wisdom and unending myths.

The rise and fall of Majapahit
Majapahit ruled most of the islands of the present Indonesian archipelago including Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan (Borneo), Bali etc. But an empire that was based on myths, wisdom, arts and culture could not endure the onslaught of Islam; it got weakened and finally crumbled down forcing its priests, scholars, artists, sculptures dancers et all to flee to Bali the nearby island. Thus Bali got enriched by this rare exodus and became the ‘ultimate island’ of myths, culture, arts, and wisdom.

Scuba Diving in Indonesia

Indonesia is one of the top scuba diving destinations in the world because of it has 20 percent of the world's coral reefs concentrated in the waters. Indonesia is made up of more than 13,000 tropical islands (many of them deserted) and boasts of the longest coastline of any country anywhere in the world. Nestled between the Indian Ocean on the east and the Pacific Ocean on the west, Indonesia is an equatorial paradise of unending beauty and mystery.

While scuba diving in Indonesia, you will have the opportunity to spy some of the more than 3,000 species of fish, 450 species of coral, vertical walls, wrecks, volcanic underwater mountains, and macro life of unbelievable diversity. And with nearly a thousand scuba diving sites directly off shore or reachable by a short boat ride, you will never grow bored of scuba diving in Indonesia.

Two of the most popular scuba diving destinations in Indonesia include Komodo and Bali. Following is a brief introduction to each.

KOMODO - Komodo Island is world renowned for its biodiversity. In fact, Komodo National Park is home to great diversity. A scuba diving expedition in this park will bring you up close and personal with colorful shallow reefs full of small marine life and deep water wonders such as sea mounts, walls, and pinnacles. You may even be able to spy a shark or two. Other wonders that you might see while scuba diving in Komodo, Indonesia include whale sharks, sunfish, mantas, eagle rays, pygmy seahorses, clown frogfish, blue-ringed octopus, colorful sponges, tunicates, and corals.

What sets Komodo apart from other parts of Indonesia, besides the Komodo dragon, is the fact that much of the reefs in the waters surrounding Komodo are part of a national park and has been protected from damage caused by dynamite fishing.

BALI - One of the most beautiful destinations in the world, Bali is one of the most popular islands in the whole of Indonesia. Shore-based diving is extremely popular here as well as boat dives. While scuba diving in Bali, divers will be delighted by vertical drop offs, coral ridges, volcanic outcrops, seagrass beds, and one of the most famous wrecks in the world. Marine life in this part of Indonesia includes hairy frogfish, cockatoo leaf fish, bumphead parrotfish, reef sharks, sunfish, and trevallies.

While the scuba diving season in Bali is year round, the best diving can be had from the months beginning with April and running through December. From December to March is the rainy season and visibility is hampered. But if you want to see sunfish and sharks, the best time to go scuba diving in Bali is from June to September.

The bottom line is this: Scuba diving in Indonesia is an experience that can be matched by no other. The sheer abundance of life and diversity of underwater formations is what makes Indonesia a popular destination for divers from all over the world.

To obtain your 2 FREE Gifts: Special Report "Insider's Guide to Scuba Diving Gear" and Special Report "Top 10 Ways to Make Money while Scuba Diving", go to http://www.scubadivingsolutions.com and sign up for the FREE Gifts. by Lilah Tusko

How to theme Interior Design - use a furniture wholesaler!

What's a movie without a title?

What's a speech without a theme?

Don't let your interior design become a skeleton without a spine!!

The theme In interior design, we must wrap the warmth and vitality your home gives you and your guests around a strong, flexible but well-connected theme - a true design for interior design.

Depending on the feel you like to surround yourself with, interior design takes on many different themes. This is a good thing. I've seen a lot of homes that use furniture and homewares based on their designer's/owner's travels - from that quaint cafe they remember in Bali to the lobby of a five-star island resort. The good thing about wholesale design is that it doesn't have to cost five-star prices. Special moments also rank highly, like the little garden setting they got married in. Between the furniture and homewares, solid inviting themes are easily achieved.

Martin Luther King mentioned free and freedom 24 times in his short speech, and the memorable backbone - "I have a dream" eight times. We must ask 'what does our home say?' I have a dream, I have a vision, I have a wish...? It just wouldn't have stuck!

Furniture Let the furniture that is the foundation of the living in your house be a constant support to the look and feel of your design, not an ad hoc collection that is uncomfortable to wear with your eye and easy to forget in your heart.

Note: Outdoor furniture is often overlooked in selecting a theme for home design. Caution: Nurseries are not outdoor furniture wholesalers. They are nurseries, and as the name suggests, they nurse flora. Go to an outdoor furniture wholesaler for outdoor furniture that is truly in style, themed, and in line with your indoor furniture theme.

So, well-themed interior design starts with a good furniture wholesaler that can cater for all your needs. In compiling this article we used a furniture wholesaler in Sydney which, without selling to the public, does cater for non-retail outlets as well as retailers.

Homewares Once the furniture skeleton is laid, the muscle that both binds and drives your design will be like the keywords that dot your home - free and freedom did it for Luther, and they're a dime a dozen in the dictionary... so what do we need? You guessed it, a good place to buy wholesale homewares.

This may or not be the same furniture wholesaler you started with but let's not sacrifice design for convenience of a one-stop shop - the fact is only a very good furniture wholesaler will be able to provide quality classy indoor furniture, outdoor furniture, and wholesale homewares under the one roof. Nonetheless, check the wholesale homewares at the furniture wholesaler we used and see how easy it can be to keep your theme strong; when you've found a good wholesaler that is.

Whether or not Luther's dream of freedom has truly been realised, your interior design can and will make your home homely, inspiring and comfortable, if you STICK TO THE THEME! by Damian Barry

The Best Beach Activities

Beaches and islands provide a wide range of activities for vacationers. Depending on what you're interested in, there is an island in the world for you. The number of beach activities available for vacationers depends on the size of the island and its location in the world.

Most islands offer the standards: snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, and kayaking. Larger islands such as Bali, Hawaii, and Fernando de Noronha offer many more activities such as hiking, jungle trekking, wild life safaris, and surfing. In fact surfing is a widespread activity on many of the largest and most popular destinations in the world. It's very hard but a great work out and lessons can be done very cheaply.

Jungle trekking allows people a chance to see the local flora and fauna and get out of the sun for a day. However, it is only the larger islands, most notably the ones in the pacific region, that offer this activity as many other islands in the world tend to be small and don't offer the extensive amount of jungles and wildlife that these large islands can. Some of the best islands to hike around include Hawaii, Bora Bora, Reunion, and Cebu.

By far the most popular activities involve the ocean. Vacationers look forward to exploring the ocean and seeing the vast reefs and abundant fish that inhabit the waters beneath the surface. Some of the best diving in the world can be found in the Seychelles, the Maldives, Bali, Thailand, and Australia. Small Islands such as Ko Lipe, the Gili Isands, and Curacao offer little else to the traveler than beaches, sun, seafood, and scuba diving. For those not interested in scuba diving, there is always snorkeling. Snorkelers simply float on top of the water with a mask and fins and stare down and look at the wildlife below.

Beaches offer a wide variety of activities beyond just getting a tan. For those interested in traveling to islands, it's important to thoroughly research the type of beach activities you want. While the majority of islands can accommodate your needs, for those looking for more active island adventures need to look for large islands or large chains of islands so you can get a wide variety of activities to do. by Matthew Kepnes

Things to do at Sanur beach

Sanur beach is definitely an option if you are planning a holiday in which your main activity is relaxing on the beach. To profit from the increase of tourist numbers the former president Sukarno used his resources to build a huge 9 story building with a bowling alley, golf course and massive swimming pool right at the beach.

You can still see it today and can only wonder why they haven't gotten rid of it yet...

Sukarno also came up with another idea which seems to be more successful than his massive hotel. At that time Sanur beach looked a bit different: it had black volcanic sand instead of the white sand it has today.

So what happened...??

Well, it had nothing to do with the miracles of Mother Nature. Instead the former president brought in tons of golden coral sand to cover the original black beach. The white sand is now kept in place through breakwaters that are built in sea.

Imagine that...

Not surprisingly after that more beach hotels were built along the beach and today you can see many wonderful resorts that offer charming and luxurious Balinese styled accommodation such as the Puri Santrian resort, the Mercure resort and the Bali Hyatt.

If you are staying at one of these beach hotels you are guaranteed that you will have a nice piece of quiet beach where you can enjoy the sun on one of the many beach chairs that are for hotel guests only.

Unlike the sea at the western part of the island, the sea at Sanur is as quiet as a lake. The waves do not reach the beach as the reef is located far off shore. This makes it a terrific place to swimsnorkel or paddle around in a kayak.

There is however a lot of seaweed in these calm waters. But fortunately the hotels have come up with a good solution: they cut the seaweed on regular basis so you can actually feel the soft sand between your toes.

Besides visitors, these calm waters have attracted local fisher men as well. Along the whole stretch of the beach you can see the typical wooden fishing boats called Jukung.

Once they have hauled in the fish early in the morning, the majority of the fishermen spend the rest of their day looking for tourists who would like to go on a tour with them.

The colorful boat is a great way to see the beautiful beach from another angle and it is possible to go around the lagoon, to Benoa Harbour or to Turtle Island.

When you stroll along the walk-way you'll soon enough see a lot of shops, massage tables and restaurants right at the beach. The shops are mostly souvenirs shops that sell all kinds of things. The shopkeepers will make sure that you know that they are there and which shop is theirs.

But if you are really not planning to do any shopping, try not to look in the direction of their shops because that is usually their cue to approach you. This tip can also be applied for the massages on the beach.

Everyday dozens of women are ready to give you a traditional Balinese massage on the beach. Right under a patch of trees there are a couple of massage tables on which you can lie comfortably while they ease every muscle in your body with their professional hands.

If you are in for a massage, go for it. It's always nice to hear the sea breeze while relaxing at the same time. But if a massage on the beach isn't your thing (lack of privacy), remember to look the other way and continue walking...

A great thing about Sanur beach is that there is a lot of great restaurants right on the beach. Eating in the open air with your toes in the sand just makes the picture of the tropical holiday complete...

You can either eat in a stylish restaurant at one of the hotels which has great views of the beach and sea or you can head towards the restaurants located along the walk-way.

Here you can find restaurants such as Bonsai Café where you can eat great food for a very reasonable price, the Mango Restaurant & Bar with a great lounge-seating area under the palm trees, and one of my favorites the little Spirit cafe that serves great sandwiches with first class view of the beach and sea.

As you can see Sanur beach has more to offer than just nice sand and a calm see. It is a great place if you are looking for total relaxation during your holiday while staying at one of the many beach hotels and enjoying lunch and dinner in the terrific restaurants located right at the beach... by Matt Verbaan

Bali Villas, the best way to get a private accomodation in Bali

Why bali villas is the best alternative way when you need a private accomodation for your holiday in Bali? Amidst luxuries you can only dream about, you can sail the seas of the world and visit more than 40 different ports of call on five of the world's continents.

Start your voyage of discovery in Los Angeles and sail westward on a luxury around the world cruise across the Pacific to sample the delights of the Marquesas Islands. Experience the sounds and tastes of French Polynesia where you can have a picnic under the palm trees.

The skyline of Sydney Harbour dominated by the world-famous Opera House will set the stage for your shore excursion in this wonderful city. This city is on the itinerary of ports of call for most cruise lines that offer around the world cruises along with other Australian destinations such as Perth and Melbourne. Sail across the Indian Ocean to discover the cultures and beauty of such island nations as Bali and Borneo.

Stop at various destinations in the Far East where you can explore ancient monuments of which you have only heard or read about. These dazzling structures will amaze you and cause you to stop and ponder the skill of the ancient artisans. Taste the fine foods of Vietnam as you sit in a small cafe taking in the foot traffic that walks the streets.

Travel on to Singapore and explore the ports of call in India. See the sites of Dubai and ports in the Gulf of Oman before you make your way back through the Suez Canal and into the Mediterranean. Cross the Atlantic and make several stops in the Caribbean before you disembark from the cruise ship in a Florida port, usually Fort Lauderdale.

The choices are many in a 5-star world cruise because there are nine cruise lines that offer this once in a lifetime experience. You will need to have at least three months free time in order to take in the full cruise and some cruises are over four months in duration. If you only have a month or so, you can opt to join the cruise at a specific port of call and journey to several of the destinations before returning home.

The ports of call are not the only exotic features of a 5-star world cruise. The cruise ships have often been called floating 5-star hotels with the addition of waking up to a different scene each day instead of remaining in the same location. The luxuries are beyond compare from the decorations, furnishings and amenities.

Around the world cruise ships are famed for the cuisine offered to the passengers prepared by world renowned chefs. You don't even have to take any of the shore excursions if you wish to remain aboard the ship and just take in the scenery from your balcony. Your comfort comes first with the crew and the ships have enough crew members to provide you with individualized attention.

Why not spend a few months being pampered and not having to worry about your day to day chores? Relax in your stateroom, order room service, take a few laps of the pool, work out in the gym or enjoy the pampering that only a spa can give. This is just a bird's eye view of what awaits you in a 5-star world cruise. by Sarah Martin

Bali wood craft

The island of bali is located at the eastern tip of java, the main island of indonesia. for the most part, balinese artisans are excellent wood carvers and painters. this is evident just by strolling around the island and looking at the temples, houses and even ceremonial decorations. their craftsmanship developed hand in hand with their spirituality. the cultural district here is located in ubud, while the main metal handicrafts production is in a place called tabanan.

The Balinese sculpture with natural media - wood, stone, bone, horn, deadwood, and even gnarled tree roots. Nowadays, souvenir-caliber wood carving is churned out and successful creations are mass produced. Any visitor to Bali is likely to be exposed to wood carving in all forms, be it the traditional ornate carved doors, the carved figures of gods, or the countless carved items in craft shops. Wood carving is a craft practiced all over Bali. Open your ears to the tapping sound of the carver's mallet and you would know that there is one around. It would be taxing to separate traditional and foreign influences. However, Balinese are intense observers of the outside world, effortlessly incorporating and adapting foreign themes into their work.

For quality wood carving, head to Tegallalang, Pujung, and Sebatu, which is north of Ubud. It is a great area to meet woodcarvers; it is best to take note of the artist's name and visit him at the workshop to negotiate a better price. Bali is a perfect place for western artists to study their crafts. There are wood carving lessons in which you can learn to carve your own mask in about three weeks.

if you want to search about bali wood craft, please come to our website http://www.baliartwood.com by lenny christiyanti

Property in bali

Here we show you property in Bali. The amount of natural landscape is limited. If you would like to get away from the throngs of tourists in Bali, and see some of the more "local" attractions, pay a visit to West Bali National Park or Taman Nasional Bali Barat. The park is located in North Bali Island and takes up almost 10% of the island. There is a considerable variation in habitat. Here you can trek through lush jungles, savanna, and mangroves. You can try and spot the endangered jalak putih, also known as the Bali startling, of which only a few (some same as few as 12) live in the wild. Amazing snorkeling and diving is available in the coral reef off of the coast.

The park consists of around 50, 000 hectare of protected land and 7,000 hectare of coastal waters and coral reefs. A large portion of the park is for research and conservation, however, both long and short treks through the park are available. The hikes are not considered difficult, however you may need to crawl through scrub or follow deer trails at times. Occasionally the trail can be steep. You must pay for a permit and a guide to enter the park. Both are available at the park entrance. The guide will be invaluable at helping you spot and identify the diverse wildlife living in the park.

The park is no longer home to the Balinese tiger, (the last one was shot in 1937) however there are over 200 other species of animals that live here, including barking deer, leopards, macaques, pythons and wild boars. There are spiders that are as large as your hand, that will not harm you , and scorpions that can make you quite sick.

For the bird lover there are over 300 species of birds, including the previously mentioned Bali Startling. The Bali startling is endangered in the wild, although it breeds easily in captivity. Efforts are being made to release more into the wild, however, poachers are catching them almost as quickly as they can be released. Although attractive as caged birds, please do not be tempted to purchase them. You will be encouraging local poachers.

West Bali National Park also includes a wonderful coral reef. Diving and snorkeling trips to the uninhabited Menjangan Island can be arranged through any local dive shop. Sea life is abundant around Bali. Some of the species you may see while diving or snorkeling are puffer fish, blue sturgeon, parrot fish, yellow back fusiliers, damsel fish, puffer fish, unicorn fish, barracuda and silvery jacks. Other sea life include dolphins, whales, whale sharks and Hawksvile turtles. Coastal birds include brown boobies, terns, and lesser frigate birds.

Plan on spending a day in West Bali National Park. A good hike will take around five hours and you will want time to enjoy the streams and forests. Make sure you arrive early, or stay until dusk, because early morning and late afternoon are when the wildlife is most active. by Gen Wright
